過去式

描述過去做過的事，就像是描述一個歷史記錄。

• I ate at 2 p.m. 我2點吃飯。 純粹交代「過去某個特定時間」發生的事實。

「過去做過的事」，「過去的狀態」，但「現在」沒有。

• I worked as a server.我以前是服務生，但我「現在不是」服務生。
• I worked as a server for three years. 我以前當過三年服務生，但我「現在不是」服務生。
• I lived in Tapei.我以前住過台北，但我「現在沒有」住台北。
• I lived in Tapei for three years.我以前住過台北三年，但我「現在沒有住」台北。
• My parents lived in Scotland for twenty years.我的父母在苏格兰住了二十年。
• My aunt lived in England for five years.我的阿姨在英格兰住了五年。
• Mom and Dad moved to New York in 1990.妈妈和爸爸在1990年搬到了纽约。
• Did you live in an apartment last year?你去年住在公寓里吗？
• They stayed in Germany for six years.
• I studied English in London for four years.我在伦敦学习英语学习了四年。(現在沒有)
• It snowed for about two hours yesterday.(about是大約)
• It rained for six hours yesterday!(過去下雨，現在沒有下)
• I waited at the airport in Miami for two hours.(過去等，但「現在」沒有等)

when（當…的時候）在英文大腦裡，指的是「某一個具體的、特定時間點」（就像日曆上的某一天，或是時鐘上的某一分）。

過去式的關鍵字

只要句子裡出現「明確的過去時間點」（Locked Timestamp），動詞就只能用過去簡單式（visited）。
