Directions, 為什麼要加 s?指引絕對不會只有「一個動作」,而是由一連串「一條一條、一步一步的步驟」組合起來的。

give/show 人 directions to

directions to + 目的地

Direction 天生自帶「指向哪裡」的屬性,本身就有「朝向、通往」的概念,使用表示方向與目標的介系詞 to。

Street vs Avenue

美國的馬路命名,東西向的叫 Street,南北向的叫 Avenue。

第二步(再講在哪裡執行):

go + north/east/south/west

用 go 可以表達「這條路通往哪裡、往哪個方向延伸」。
中間沒有to,也沒有there,north/east/south/west 為副詞。

  • This road goes south.(這條路向南通。)
  • This road does not go south.
  • Does this road go east?(這條路是向東開的嗎?)
  • No, we need to go west.不,我们需要往西走。

[主詞] + be動詞 + [方位]

in 容器 + on the left/right 先容器,再左邊右邊

    • 先說「容器in the drawer」,再說位置

  • Did we park on the right or on the left of the movie theater?
  • The store is on the left of the park.(店在公園的左邊 → 必須加上 of + 參考物)

  • 純方位(沒基準物):on the left 直接放句尾(The drawer is on the left.)
  • 雙層地點(物體在某個東西裡):[in 容器] + [on the left]
  • 相對位置(在某個地標的左邊):[on the left] + [of 基準物]

on the left side/ right side

這裡的 side(邊、側)把「左邊」具象化成了一個「區塊、表面或車道範圍」。
一條馬路切成左半邊跟右半邊,警察站在左半邊的這個「側邊/這一側」。
當我們在講實體的道路、街道、建築物的牆面、或是物體的兩側時,加上 side 會讓空間感更明確、更有具體的「這一邊」的感覺。

偏向「具體的交通規劃」「從 A 地到 B 地的導航路徑」。

  • Scenic route(風景路線 / 觀光路線)
    • Let’s take the scenic route home.(我們回家時走風景優美的路線吧。)

    • The main road is closed, so we need to find an alternative route.(主幹道封閉了,我們得找一條替代路線。)

Route當動詞

  • Route traffic(導流 / 引導交通)。
  • Route a package(規劃包裹的寄送路徑)。
    • All calls are routed to the main office.(所有電話都被轉接到總公司去了。)

2. the way(路 / 路線 / 方式)

  • 核心概念:含義非常廣泛,除了實體的「路途/方向」之外,還可以指「方法」「抽象的路」。
  • 特性
  • 當作實體路徑時:它通常比較籠統,指「前往某處的過程或方向」(例如:Show me the way. 帶我走這條路)。
  • 當作抽象用法時:意思是「方法、方式」(例如:This is the way to do it. 這是做這件事的方法)。

  • 例句
  • Do you know the way to the station?(你知道去車站的嗎? —— 比較不強調是不是「最好」的,單純指那條路。)
  • I lost my way in the dark.我在黑暗中迷路了。
