few, a few, fewer

a few + 可數名詞S

• 🍎 a few apples（幾顆蘋果） 抽象、泛指概念上的「幾顆蘋果」。眼前沒有劃定哪一籃或哪一樹。

• ❌ a few of apples（誤！因為後面只是泛指 apples，沒有一個「特定的範圍」讓你去 ‘of’ 它。）

例句

• a few books （幾本書）
• I have a few books to read.（我有幾本書要讀。）
• There are a few seats left.（還剩下幾個座位。
• I have a few friends. → 我有幾個朋友。（單純描述事實，不需 of）

a few + the/this/my + 可數名詞

後面必須有 my / the / these / us / them 等指定詞，代表「從這群特定的人事物之中」。

• 👥 a few of my friends（我朋友中的幾個）
• a few of my books （我的書裡的幾本）
• A few of my friends like pop music. → 我的朋友裡面有幾個人喜歡流行樂。（從特定範圍裡挑，一定要 of）
• A few of my friends are teachers.（我朋友中有幾位是老師。）
• A few of them failed the test.（他們之中有幾個人考試沒過。）

few + 可數名詞S 幾乎沒有

如果把 a拿掉（只剩 few），意思會變成「幾乎沒有、少到不行」。再加上 only，會強調「慘了，只剩下可憐的寥寥幾顆」。

• We only have few eggs.（幾乎沒有，帶有負面感）

fewer + 可數名詞S (比較級)

• There are fewer cars on the road today.（今天路上的車子比較少。）
• I eat fewer apples now.（我現在少吃了很多蘋果。 → apples 可數）
• She has fewer friends than before.（她現在的朋友比以前少。 → friends 可數）
• Please make fewer mistakes.（請少犯一點錯。 → mistakes 可數）

fewer than + 可數名詞S 不到

• There are fewer than ten people in the room.（房間裡有不到十個人。）
