the other(形容詞) 剩下

前面加上 the 代表「在一個特定範圍內，扣除掉已知的部分之後，『剩下的全部』」

複數可數S

• Someone drank all the other bottles! 有人把其他(剩下)所有的瓶子都喝光了
• Where are the other students?（其他那些學生在哪裡？——指某個班級裡特定的、剩下的學生）

單數可數(不加S)

• I have two cats. One is white, and the other cat is black. (我有兩隻貓。一隻是白的，(剩下一隻)另一隻是黑的。)

不可數

• Someone drank all the other water. (剩下的水都被喝光了)
• I drank the other milk, and left some for you. (我喝了剩下的牛奶，留了一些給你。)

the other(代名詞) + is 剩下的那一個／那孤立的一個是

other 後面沒有 s，代表是單數名詞（剩下的那一個），所以動詞要用 is。

• I have two pens. One is red, and the other is blue.（我有兩支筆。一支是紅的，另一支是藍的。——總共只有兩支，扣掉一支，剩下一支用 the other）
• I have two keys. One is lost, and the other is in my pocket.（我有兩把鑰匙。一把弄丟了，另一把在我的口袋裡。）

the otherS(代名詞) + are 剩下其它人

前面加了 the，代表有一個明確的總體範圍。你已經知道總共有多少，扣掉前面提到的之後，「剩下的全部」就是 the others。

• Two of the students are here; the others are still on the way.（有兩個學生已經到了，剩下的那些人還在路上。）
• Some apples are red, and the others are green.（有些蘋果是紅色的，剩下的那些是綠色的。）
• I like this pair of shoes, but the others are too small.（我很喜歡這雙鞋，但剩下的那些（鞋子）都太小了。
• Three students passed the exam, and the others failed.（有三個學生通過考試，剩下的全部都死當了。——假設全班就這幾個人，扣掉那3個，其他人全算在內。）
• I ate two cookies, and I gave the others to my dog.（我吃了兩片餅乾，把剩下的全部都給我的狗了。）

others(代名詞) 其它人

任意一個「其他人／其他事物」，它前面沒有 the，所以不指名道姓，也沒有限定是誰。通常用來表達「除了某些人事物之外，還有其他人事物（但不是全部）」。

它是 other + S名詞複數 結合後的代名詞，所以它後面絕對不能再加名詞（因為它自己就是名詞了）。

• Some like sports, others prefer reading.（有些人喜歡運動，而其他人比較喜歡閱讀。）
• Some people like spicy food, and others prefer sweet food.（有些人喜歡辣的食物，其他人（泛指社會上形形色色的人）比較喜歡甜的。）
• Don’t always rely on others.（不要總是依賴別人。）
• Do you have others?（你有其他的（商品／款式）嗎？——不一定是店裡全部剩下的，只是問有沒有別的。）

可數名詞S

• I have other plans today.（我今天有其他計畫。)
• Do you have any other questions?（你有任何其他問題嗎？）
• ❌ 錯誤用法：I have an other sweater.(other後面不能單數可數名詞，前面也不可以放an)
• ❌ 錯誤用法：I want other.（other 不能單獨站出來當代名詞）

anotehr(形容詞) + 單數名詞(不可以加s)

an(一個) + other(另一個) = 有an代表是可數名詞，an代表一個，所以只能接單數可數名詞。

• I want another cup of coffee.（我想要另一杯咖啡。）
• ❌ another後面不可+可數名詞S(錯誤)：I want another books.

• ❌ another後面不可+不可數名詞(錯誤)：I need another time.

• Could we have another drink?我们可以再要一杯饮料吗？

anotehr(代名詞)：直接代替前面提過的東西。

• This coffee is good. I’ll have another.（這咖啡不錯，我再來一杯。）

• I don’t like this shirt. Show me another shirt.（這件我不喜歡，拿另一件給我看。 → 單數，用 another）
• I don’t like this shirt. Show me other shirts.（這件我不喜歡，拿其他（幾件）給我看。 → 複數，用 other）

量詞（計量單位），用來計算像巧克力這種沒有固定形狀、或是整塊分開的食物。

another piece of chocolate 就是「另一塊巧克力 / 再一塊巧克力」。

巧克力（chocolate）、水（water）、紙張（paper）這類名詞，在英文中被歸類為「不可數名詞」（Uncountable Nouns）。

• 你不能直接說 another chocolate（文法上不對）。

• 必須透過量詞（比如 piece 片/塊、cup 杯、bottle 瓶、slice 切片）來幫忙計算數量。

• Can I have another cup of coffee?（我可以再喝一杯咖啡嗎？）
• Could I get another slice of pizza?（我可以再拿一片披薩嗎？）
• He wants another glass of water.（他想要再喝一杯水。）
