next 當作「順序副詞」使用，意思是「接下來、下一步」。

• Where can we go next?
• What should we do next?（我們接下來該做什麼？）
• Next time, send an email! 形容詞
• Who is next?（下一個是誰？）代名詞？

• Where are we going next?（我們接下來要去哪裡？）

next(輪到誰) vs after(順序) vs behind(位置)

• Who is next? I am next in line.誰是下一個？我是下一個。結帳、點餐 (輪到誰)
• Who is after me? 誰在我後面 (排隊順序)
• He is behind me in line. 他排在我後面(位置)
• Three people are behind me. 有三個人排在我的後面(位置)

next to 緊鄰著

兩棟房子緊緊相連，或是兩個人並排坐著。

• My house is next to the store.在超商隔壁。
• That flower garden is next to my house.
• He is sitting next to you!他坐在我隔壁。
• There is a refrigerator next to the swimming pool.
• Let’s put this plant next to the window.(咱们把这个植物放在窗户旁边吧。)
• The kitchen is next to the dining room.

next to 修飾前面名詞

• The seat next to me is empty. （我旁邊的位子是空著的。）
• The restaurant next to the library is famous. （圖書館旁邊的那家餐廳很有名。）

next 時間 副詞

當這些詞彙（next, last, this, every）直接前面帶領時間名詞時，它們本身就已經具備了「限定」的功能，所以不需要再加 the。

• see you next week（下週見）
• I was busy last month（我上個月很忙）
• We will meet this Friday（我們這個星期五見） 這些都是直接說 next week、last month，前面絕對不會加 the。

the next …

當 next 不是直接黏在時間名詞前面當副詞，而是作為普通的形容詞，用來指「接下來的（連續一段）七天／那一個星期」時，就會需要加上 the。

情境對比：

• 沒有 the（next week）： 指的是行事曆上的「下個禮拜」（一個特定的時間點或期間）。

• 有 the（the next week）： 通常是指「從現在或某個過去時間點開始算起的接下來整整七天（一段持續的時間）」。

• It rained continuously for the next week. （在接下來的那個星期裡，雨連續下了不停 → 指緊接著那七天內。）

• I am going to Japan next week. （我下週要去日本 → 指下個禮拜這個時間點的概念。）

• 當你想表達「下週、下個月、去年」這種大方向的時間點時，習慣直接用：next week、last year（不加 the）。
• 只有當你想強調「接下來的那一整週（一段連續的時間）」時，才會寫成 the next week。
