on 不加/a/the 名詞

什麼都不加（零冠詞）：表示「抽象概念或常態」

當 on 後面的名詞是一個不可數名詞、或是被當成一種「抽象狀態／制度」來看時，通常什麼冠詞都不加。這時候重點在於「那個狀態本身」，而不是某一個特定的事件。

• on business（因公／出差）➔ business 在這裡指「商業、公務」這種抽象概念。
• on duty（值班中）➔ duty 指「職責、值勤」的狀態。
• on strike（罷工中）➔ strike 指「罷工」這種集體行動狀態。 邏輯： 我們關心的是「他處於『出差／值班』的狀態中」，不需要特指是哪一次的出差。

加 a：表示「一次性的具體經歷、行程」

當名詞是一個可數名詞，且代表「一次具體的事件、旅程或活動」時，就會加上不定冠詞 a（代表「一次、一個」）。

• on a trip（在旅行中）➔ 一趟旅行。
• on a business trip (在出差中)
• on a mission（執行一項任務）➔ 一個特定的任務。
• on a call（在通話中）➔ 一通電話。
• on a break（在休息中）➔ 一次休息時間。

想像一下畫面，當你說 on a trip 時，你正在經歷一趟完整的旅程；

on a call 是你正在講一通電話。所以需要用 a 來帶出個體的概念。

加 the：表示「特定、唯一的對象」

當 on 後面的名詞是雙方都知道的特定事物、或是生活中唯一的設備／媒介時，就會使用定冠詞 the。

• on the phone（在講電話）➔ 為什麼用 the？因為在英文的傳統邏輯裡，整棟房子或環境中那台「用來通話的工具（電話）」是特定的、大家預設就是那一台。
• on the internet（在網路上）➔ 網際網路（internet）全世界只有一個，是獨一無二的，所以一定要用 the。
• on the radio（在廣播中）➔ 特指廣播這個大眾傳播媒介。

邏輯： 這個東西是特定的、唯一的，或者說大家都知道你在指哪一個。
