形容詞 —— 放名詞「前面」修飾

這是最常見的用法，用來修飾名詞，表示「額外的、附加的」。

an extra + 名詞

• If it snows, I will be staying here for an extra night. 如果下雪，我就會多住一晚
  • I will stay another night.二者(another/an extra)可替換，相同意思
• I need extra time to finish this project. （我需要額外的時間來完成這個專案。）
  • extra time.額外的時間。time是不可數名詞，不用加an
• We ordered an extra pizza for the party. （我們為派對多點了一個披薩。）

副詞 —— 放形容詞或副詞「前面」表示程度

當 extra 當作副詞時，意思是「格外地」、「特別地」（等同於 especially 或 very），通常用在口語中。

extra + 形容詞 / 副詞

• The coffee today is extra strong. （今天的咖啡特別濃。）
• Please be extra careful when handling this glass. （拿這個玻璃杯時請格外小心。）

可數名詞 —— 指「額外的事物或費用」

當作名詞時，通常用來指「額外付出的錢」或「多出來的東西」。

• Is there an extra to pay for luggage?（行李需要支付額外費用嗎？）
• Is delivery included, or is there an extra? （運費有包含在內嗎，還是有額外收費？）
• Breakfast and Wi-Fi are included with no hidden extras.（包含早餐和無線網路，沒有隱藏的額外收費。）
• We have a few extras left over from the meeting. （會議結束後我們剩下一些多餘的東西。）
