rather than 而不是
rather than 最大的文法考點就是「對稱性」。也就是說，rather than 的前面放什麼詞性，後面就要接同等地位的詞性。
① 連接兩個「原形動詞」
- I prefer to walk rather than take the bus. （我寧願走路，也不要坐公車。）
② 連接兩個（V-ing）
- She enjoys reading rather than watching TV. （她喜歡閱讀，而不是看電視。）
③ 連接兩個「名詞」
用來排除某個東西，選擇另一個：
- We need a solution, rather than an excuse. （我們需要的是解決辦法，而不是藉口。）
③ 連接兩個「形容詞」或「副詞」
- The color is pink rather than red. （這顏色是粉紅色，而不是紅色。）

Rather than放句首
- Rather than complain, we should take action. （與其抱怨，我們不如採取行動。） (注意：放在句首時，後面直接接原形動詞，後面再接主要子句)
和類似片語的比較：instead of
很多人會分不清 rather than 和 instead of，簡單幫你區分：
instead of（代替、而不是）：通常只單純接「名詞」或「V-ing」。- I drank tea instead of coffee.（我喝茶而不是咖啡。）
第一類：連接兩個「動詞」（表達寧願做 A，也不要做 B）
這類用法最常出現在表達個人喜好或選擇時，rather than 後面通常直接接原形動詞或 V-ing。
- I prefer to work from home rather than commute for two hours every day. （我寧願在家工作，也不要每天通勤兩個小時。）
- She chose to face the problem rather than run away from it. （她選擇勇敢面對問題，而不是逃避它。）
- He decided to write an email rather than make a phone call. （他決定寫電子郵件，而不是打電話。）
- We enjoy cooking at home rather than eating out at expensive restaurants. （我們喜歡在家自己煮，而不是去貴鬆鬆的餐廳外食。）
第二類：連接兩個「名詞」（表達要 A，而不是 B）
這類用法用來直接排除某個事物，並堅定地選擇另一個。
- The company needs a long-term strategy, rather than a quick fix. （公司需要的是長遠的策略，而不是權宜之計 / 速成解法。）
- I want to buy a practical car rather than a luxury sports car. （我想買一台實用的車，而不是豪華跑車。）
- Success is built on hard work, rather than pure luck. （成功是建立在努力工作上，而不是純粹的運氣。）
第三類：放在句首（表達「與其…不如…」）
當你想強調「比起浪費時間做 A，我們不如直接做 B」時，可以把 rather than 放在句首，後面接原形動詞。
- Rather than argue about it, let’s look for a solution together. （與其為這件事爭吵，我們不如一起找解決方法。）
- Rather than wait for things to happen, we should take the initiative. （與其被動等待事情發生，我們不如主動出擊。）
