- It’s the sweater we saw yesterday at the store!
The sweater which/that we saw yesterday at the store(我們昨天在店裡看到的那件毛衣)。
- I know the person.
- The person is standing at the door.
- I know the person who is standing at the door.
-
I know the person at the door.
I saw a man. The man was wearing a hat.(兩句斷開)
-
I saw a man who was wearing a hat.(一句搞定)
- The book (that) I read.→ 直接說 The book I read.
- The man (who) I met.→ 直接說 The man I met
that 幾乎可以用來替代 who 和 which。
- The person who I saw→ The person that I saw(沒人會覺得你錯,反而聽起來很自然)
-
The book which I read→ The book that I read
- Did you know that he was a doctor in France?
強調動作 Who/That。
- The person who works here.(在這裡工作的那個人。)
- The girl whose bag I found.(我撿到她包包的那個女生。)
- The girl with the bag.
- 關係代名詞 (詳細):The person who is standing at the door.(這是完整句型,用了 who 這個關代,加上了動作 standing,語氣更具體。)
The error that I found in the file yesterday.
The error in the file.
|---|---|---|
| Who | 修飾人,當「主詞」 | The person who is calling me. |
| Whom | 修飾人,當「受詞」 | The person whom I spoke to. |
| That | 可修飾人或物,通常很通用 | The book that is on the table.
| The man whose car is parked outside.
A diploma is a special certificate that shows (that) you finished school.”
A diploma is a special certificate…
that shows...
shows(顯示、證明) - 第二層子句:
(that) you finished school - 動詞
“A diploma is a special certificate that shows that you finished school.”
因為如果一句話裡面出現兩個 that ... that ...,聽起來非常重複且彆扭(…that shows that you…)。
- This is a story that proves (that) dreams can come true.
- I read a report that says (that) global temperatures are rising.
shows後面接的是「證明的內容」(you finished school)。
A diploma is a special certificate that shows you finished school.
-
This is the book (that) I bought yesterday.(
that省略,句子會變成: ❌ A diploma is a special certificate shows you finished school.
|---|---|---|---|
**第一個 that** |
**第二個 that** |
✅ A diploma is a special certificate that shows you finished school.
- ✅
Thathe failed the exam surprised everyone. - ❌ He failed the exam surprised everyone.(錯誤!
- It surprised everyone (that) he failed the exam.(可省略)
- ✅ This is the house in which I grew up.(這是我長大的房子。)
- ❌ This is the house in I grew up.(錯誤!
- ✅ Paris, which is the capital of France, is beautiful.(巴黎,也就是法國的首都,非常美麗。)
- ❌ Paris, is the capital of France, is beautiful.(錯誤!
- ✅ She said (that) she was tired and that she wanted to go home.
- ❌ She said she was tired and she wanted to go home.
- ✅ The fact that earth goes around the sun is well known.
- ✅ I heard a rumor that they are getting married.
- ❌ The fact earth goes around…(不適當!
|---|---|---|
| 關代作主詞 | ❌ 不可省 | a certificate that shows…(動詞前缺乏主詞) |
| 主詞子句在句首 | ❌ 不可省 | That he lied is obvious.(提示後面整串是主詞) |
| 介系詞之後 | ❌ 不可省 | the house in which I live(介系詞後須有代名詞) |
| 對等連接詞後的第二個子句 | ❌ 不可省 | He said (that) A and that B.(維持平行結構) |
| 關代作受詞 | ✅ 可省略 | the book (that) I bought(主詞為 I,關係代名詞可省) |
| 一般動詞後的賓語子句 | ✅ 可省略 | I think (that) you are right.(日常口語最常省略) |
“He dreamed his bedroom was full of monsters!”
加上 that(較正式) |
省略 that(較口語、自然) |
|---|---|---|
| He dreamed that he could fly. | He dreamed he could fly. | |
| I think that it’s a good idea. | I think it’s a good idea. | |
| She said that she was tired. | She said she was tired. | |
| We know that you are right. | We know you are right.
省去that
- You look like someone I knew many years ago!
